THE LIGHTLY STRUNG ORCHESTRA

The uber-uke-tastic Lightly Strung Orchestra (LSO) was founded in 2013 by Janine Shearer for players of all levels of proficiency, from advanced beginners to intermediate and advanced shredders!

We are super proud to have created such a supportive ukulele community over the past 11 years, with hundreds and hundreds of joyful ukesters joining the LSO to play, sing and improve their ukulele techniques through regular participation in structured, multi-part musical arrangements.

Although we have suspended LSO sessions for 2024, we will keep our photos and videos here to remember the wonderful times we celebrated together.

The LSO provided free admission to all 76 of their public performances (including some special highlights here), reaching audiences of 50-300 people per event, at diverse venues including retirement villages, RSL Clubs, shopping centres around Sydney, and festivals in Newcastle and the Blue Mountains.

We thank EVERYONE who joined the LSO and for sharing in this uke-crazy music making adventure with us! We know our magnificent sea of aqua blue has been able to sprinkle a little bit of musical magic on the audiences we’ve met along the way… and we’ve certainly had a lot of fun in the process!

What LSO Members Say

"A magical experience being part of the wonderful LSO and the leadership, friendship and exceptional teaching of Janine and Jenny. Such a supportive group - might be motley but where else would this range of ages and at times abilities exist to work towards a single goal but in doing so enrich each other’s lives."

Kim, LSO member since 2017
